Spring Fling

I am so inspired by the gorgeous pastels of the flowers, the aroma of new grass and blossoms, the colorful spring fashion and the crisp fresh air.

The bustling of people coming out from indoors to grab a few minutes in the sun is so splendid to watch.  It’s like a fashion show all over again on the streets. People are ditching their overcoats to don cropped pants and tops in mint green, purples, pinks and crisp whites.  It’s such a breath of fresh air compared to the heavy winter black coats we have all been bundled in.

Look around and get inspired. There are so many wonderful things happening this time of year and it’s so important to appreciate it.

Spring is a rebirth.  It’s time to start over and express yourself clearly. Take it as a clean slate and paint the picture you want for you life.  Manifest the dream that you have been replaying in your head.

What would it take to live that life? Probably only the repeated habit of doing the opposite of what you are currently doing.  Wherever you are in your life… if you are not where you want to be, do the opposite of what you are doing now.  If you are where you want to be, dig deeper and see how you can give and create more.

Something I’ve just recently drilled into my head is a little miracle worker called the Ultimate Success Mantra.  Straight from the book “The Big Leap” by Gay Hendricks.

Basically it is something so transformational that I had to share.

The ultimate success mantra is this: “I expand in abundance, success and love every day, as I inspire those around me to do the same.”

Say that in your mind often. When you let that sink in to your head, and I mean really let that sink in – it changes everything.  What would this mean if it were true? If this is what we are meant to do, it gives us permission to be so much more, and not be afraid of what any one thinks or what we’ve been told. It makes it ok for our light to shine bright, as our shining bright inspires others to shine bright as well.  This is so brilliant! (Forgive the pun!) There is more than enough for everyone and when we grow, it inspires others to grow too. It allows others to speak their minds and to accept greatness into their lives.

What would the spring flower be if it didn’t bloom? Would the neighboring flower not bloom because there wasn’t enough space for both of them? No.

I’m not sure if you believe in this stuff and maybe this isn’t up your ally. However, if it is – I challenge you to throw this mantra around in your head a bit and really let it seep in. Understand it’s meaning and fight against the naysayers in your head.  As the author Gay Hendricks says, “Back-talk is a good thing. It means the ultimate success mantra is working.”

Challenge yourself and challenge your spring renewal.  How can you inspire others by expanding in love, abundance and success everyday?

Wishful thinking

Screen Shot 2013-04-10 at 8.12.36 PMDo you ever wake up, open your eyes and before you even get out of bed – stress about the day to come?  Or, some days do you open your eyes and get excited about the day because of something you are looking forward to?

Most mornings we open our eyes and our brain immediately starts to play catch-up with the soon-to-be events of the day.

What if I told you, you can actually control how your day goes by those first few thoughts that pop up into your mind before your feet even touch the floor?

“Worrying is a prayer for chaos.” Says my mentor Gabrielle Bernstein.

Wishful thinking is a prayer for your wishes to come true.

Sounds ridiculous? Try it!

When you prep your mind for the day to come, instead of checking your emails and messages you can choose what your day will be like.

Getting up on “the right side of the bed” starts with simply saying something to yourself like: “Today is going to be AWESOME” or “I am going to be SO productive today.

And guess what, it works… for me and many other people!

I can prove it. If you listen to a song first thing in the morning, all day long your mind will go back to that song – unconsciously. Same is true for the first thought you have.

If you think about all the stressful things you need to do today, your day will be stressful. If you think about how productive you will be today, you will be productive. That first thought will stick in your mind all day and basically act as the day’s instructions.

What kind of instructions are you giving your brain?

Action precedes feeling, says expert Bob Burg.

He goes on to say “For example, a person is sad ( or stressed). Do they need to have a happy ( or calming) incident occur to them before they can be happy (or calm)? No, it’s been proven that if you act happy, you will become happy….”

And if you act calm, you will become calm. If you act productive – or THINK productive, you will be productive.

Bob continues, “Happiness is independent of external circumstances (which doesn’t mean there aren’t external circumstances that can legitimately cause sadness, but not as a general way of being). Change your actions (and thoughts) and you’ll change your emotions.”

Gandi said it best:

“Your beliefs become your thoughts, 
Your thoughts become your words, 
Your words become your actions, 
Your actions become your habits, 
Your habits become your values, Your values become your destiny.

So there you have it, wishful thinking… what internal dialogue do you need changing?

How would your destiny be different if you changed your beliefs and thoughts every morning?  Take it a step further, how would your life be different if you changed your beliefs and thoughts on a moment-to-moment basis?

Keep dreaming…

Keep on dreaming. It’s never too late to live your dreams.

Even if it seems like the farthest thing possible from how you are living your life right now – it’s never too late to do what you really want to do.

You create your reality.  “You have invented the world you see.” – ACIM.

Your perception is your reality. You may have heard this before but it is definitely worth repeating: “Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t, you most certainly are right.” – Henry Ford.

It is really powerful to realize that what you think, you create.

If you think you are capable, you are capable. If you think you are not worthy, you won’t be.

When you dream and envision, you open up your mind to your inner most desires – the wishes that you truly want to have fulfilled.  We sometimes limit our dreams or stop ourselves from dreaming too big for fear of being let down, being afraid it is too outrageous to actually happen.  However, that limits our potential and causes us to not only stop our dream in our minds, but literally stop our dreams from coming to life in our reality.

Studies show that after watching pro-athletes’ brain scans in an MRI, when asked to envision their game plan in their minds, the same parts of their brain lit up as if they were actually practicing on the court or the field. This is how many of our U.S. Armed forces are trained, by virtual stimulation simulating real life combat experiences – using video games.  They are learning the process, feeling it out and playing it out in their minds.  The skills acquired during this training period are instrumental in Military real life combat when they get on to the battlefield.

So, how is this related you ask?

When you dream about the specifics of what you want to accomplish, you are literally “practicing” in your mind for what will then seem more natural to you the first time you are interacting in the experience.  Cool huh?

So, if you dream it – you will be able to do it more naturally, you can combat the fear that is creating your Upper Limit Problem head on and start to examine it.   You can, in the safety of your mind play in the “what if this really happens”. The fear you feel about doing something for the first time will not be as strong because it will be as though you have done it already.

When you dream, your mind then becomes naturally fixated on what you are dreaming about which in turn will make you more inclined to do some research, figure out the steps you need to get there, take that class, be at that networking event and know the industry better. It’s these small steps that get you ready for the real deal. Your mind will get you ready for the actions you need to take to actually LIVE your dreams and you can break through your so called “upper limits”.

Dream it and dream of your travels, of your successes, your milestones, how you will feel, and dream bigger.  Imagine what you want to accomplish and keep dreaming it until your mind creates a curiosity that cannot be quenched until you actually are living it.

The only one stopping you, is you.

Dream on!

Evolve

So many times in life we evolve, we grow out of our old skin and we need to shed – like a snake – to rid of old habits, old belief systems and limiting thoughts.

When the skin we are in feels tight, and it is not comfortable for us anymore then naturally, you must shed the constricted constraints into a place where you can breathe again.

If you are not shedding, but you need to – you will feel it.  You will feel it in your energy and your attitude. Remember we are here to take in new information all the time and change our habits that are not working.

Just because you were taught something, or choose to believe in an “impossibility” does not mean you are correct.  Just because you believe something is scary, does not mean it actually is if you only try.

When you treat life as an experiment, take smart risks, and keep educating yourself on the matters of this world, you learn – you expand. When you are curious and release old thoughts, when you “see your fear and do it anyway”, in all aspects of our life you can then grow in to your new skin.

Then, learn some more and repeat the cycle, shed, and regrow. If we are not doing this than we literally are staying stagnant.

Sometimes we hit a glass ceiling at each level of existence.

Sometimes your old beliefs aren’t cutting it anymore.

Sometimes, you have to evolve with the times.

Go with in and nurture your internal beliefs and ask yourself – is this really worth holding on to? You will find that when you release it is the most powerful and freeing thing you can do for yourself.

Dig deep, and shed.

Shine Bright

Many of us wish to live a life beyond our wildest dreams, but what happens when we actually get some of the things we dream about? Or what happens if we never seem to get there?

Sometimes we only wish for things that are “attainable” for fear of disappointment or for disbelief in our ability to achieve, attain or be worthy of that which we really truly desire.

Believing in your greatness is something really special and of service to the world because when you shine bright, you can bring your gifts to those who need it and help in a way that only you can.

Believe it or not, this is something I have had major guilt over and major blocks around for years.

My mentor Gabrielle Bernstein says it best when she reminds us of a quote from Marianne Williamson. “We ask ourselves, who am I to be gorgeous, talented, brilliant, fabulous. Actually, who are you not to be?”

Just think about it: If we all as individuals were to shine our brightest, live a life beyond our wildest dreams, have true abundance in every sense of the word and live at our healthiest, optimal peak level – wouldn’t we all be able to have the resources, the stamina, the energy, the courage and the conviction to do exactly that which we are here to do at our highest potential.

What if Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Steve Jobs or the President of the United States didn’t believe they should shine like the brilliant star they are and thought instead they should feel guilt about having more than others, what others would say or about hurting their friends and families’ feelings if they all of a sudden became rich, famous, influential and had to fly around the world to do their jobs.

If they believed this more than they believed that they should shine and have the resources to do so, we would not have felt their impact. They would not have been able to give back, inspire us with their music, help those in need with their charities, support their families, and create great change in the world.

It is your DUTY as the special and original human being that you are to shine your brightest, do your best, reap and enjoy the rewards.

Gabby explains this in a way that is really tangible. She says if she did not believe she was worth more, and didn’t ask for more when negotiating her deals, she would not have the income that she has now. Thus she would not have the ability to fly around the world to promote her books, pay for her hotel rooms, the health care that she needs to keep her mind, body and spirit in optimal health, hire staff to support her message, or do things that she loves like experience beautiful food, fashion, travel so that she can become continually inspired to create more and influence more.

You are worthy of this too. We all are.

If you love food, the God or universe gave you that passion so you should have the ability, financially, physically and energetically to enjoy food from all cuisines. If you love fashion, you should have the ability to enjoy it, purchase it, work with it, and wear what makes you feel beautiful and inspired. If you adore beautiful things, you should have the ability to be a collector of beautiful things. If you get fired up by connecting with people you should have the ability to travel, and present yourself in a way that you can connect with as many people as possible.

The universe did not intent for those who had a passion for food to have lost the sensation to taste.

The universe did not intend for those who have no passion at all to have all of the wealth in the world to enjoy, but wanted nothing to enjoy.

Likewise, the universe did not intend for those who have nothing, financially, physically or spiritually to lack the passion and drive to overcome those obstacles and get on their path to shine.

Sometimes these things do happen, but I believe you can always change your circumstance if you believe in yourself and use your gift of free will.

Maybe the person that lost the sensation of taste was meant to discover a cure to restore those sensations. Only with the abundance, mentally, physically, emotionally, connectively or financially can one accomplish these feats and only in believing in one’s greatness and worthiness of these support systems can one attain these supports.

You should not feel guilt over attaining things that inspire you and that which you have a passion for.

However, sometimes others who do not allow themselves to feel worthy of enjoying what they love, are able to make you feel that guilt about enjoying what you love. In actuality it is because of their deep down internal guilt of not believing in themselves enough. If you are influenced by this guilt, maybe you don’t believe in yourself as much as you thought.

And that is ok.  But once you realize it, it is not ok to stay there. Your job as a human being, your journey in life, original as you are – is to shine bright. So get to work. Start believing. It’s just that simple.

Did I say believing? I mean really, unapologetically, seriously believing that you are meant to shine, deep down and too the core. Nothing less will do.

Do all things with love.

No matter what it is you do. Do all things with love. That is how you create true joy in your life.

The little things are what matter the most.

Maya Angelou once said, “People may not remember exactly what you did, or what you said, but they will always remember how you made them feel.”

The feeling behind your intentions will always shine through to those on the receiving end.

Last night I made a blue Rice Krispy treat cake, iced with cool whip, decorated with strawberries, purple icing and sprinkles along with white chocolate dipped marshmallows with purple and blue sprinkles for my boyfriend’s birthday. I put so much love into those ingredients and I know my man felt it.  Just doing little simple things like homemade birthday cake with his favorite colors and twist on traditional cupcakes with all the ingredients he likes is what makes things special.

I love birthdays and especially I love the look on his face when he sees each one of my creations and surprises, it makes me so happy to make him happy.

Bring joy to your life by doing all things with love.

I learned this from my mom when she used to make my sister and me lunches, she would sometimes throw in a surprise in our lunchbox. One day it was a pink and purple pen with a foam “cool guy” head wearing sunglasses and a orange feather Mohawk. Another day it was a love note. Another day she put stickers in our lunchboxes. It’s these little things that I will never forget because of how they made me feel.

They made me feel so special and loved and I know I could feel the love she put into those little surprises.

When you make a meal for someone, cut it into the shape of a heart. Write a sticky note “I <3 U” and put it somewhere unexpected.

Think of any little thing that someone will enjoy and make their day easier.  It took me a while to realize that one but it is a good thing to know.

If you are stressed or seem over whelmed, take the time out to do something with love. Garden for yourself and take care of your plants, pick out your clothes for the next day and make yourself feel special. Give your dog a little massage and make him feel loved. Taking that simple break will really recharge your energy and make you feel good from the inside out.

Studies say that making others happy is the best way to feel fulfilled in your own life.

A Breakthrough on "Love" and "Now"

Screen Shot 2013-01-17 at 3.43.50 AMSo sometimes, like today I get a little bit of writer’s block. However, the thing to do is push through it and write anyway. Just like with art, just like with love, just like working out, just like anything you do for fun or for a living – sometimes you get suck – and when you do, push through! Keep going.

Sometimes you’re just not in the mood, or just not inspired. For instance, yesterday I did not want to workout. So, instead of getting dressed and going to the gym I decided to just put some music on and get up and stretch for 5 minutes.  This led to dancing for one song, which led to dancing in my apartment for 20 minutes followed by 10 minutes of weights and some workout moves. I didn’t get down on myself for not wanting to work out – of course there will be days when I don’t. The key is to take that one tiny right action and do something to get the momentum going.

Life is filled with hundreds of thousands of little right actions; it’s all about taking the little right action each chance you get.

While doing Gabrielle Bernstein’s NYTimes Best Selling book “May Cause Miracles.” I came across a profound, yet simple realization.

I have been putting my goals and who I really want to be in a “then”, “one day”, “when I grow up”, “when I’m older” etc. type of mentality and I have been doing this since I was little. I am visualizing this as a far away time and a separate person from the one I am now, feeding into my excuses of maybe why I haven’t keep up certain habits and why I haven’t started others. Of course the longer I do this, while days and years continue to go by the less I am actually “being” this person and the more I am not “being” this person when I arrive at the age or time I had envisioned my “one day” to be.

The breakthrough: I am here NOW and that means in this very moment I can to be the person I want to be by acting as though I am.  For example, if the person I want to be in my 30’s, 40’s, 50’s, 60’s, 70’s etc. is really fit and toned, then today I need to work out so that actually happens – not when I’m 40.  Do you understand what I’m getting at?

It’s not about who you want to be “then” it’s about being that now.

“The best use of life is love. The best expression of love is time. The best time to love is now.”― Rick Warren

The past has already happened, the future is not even here yet. The ONLY time we have to change our lives is in the present moment. And that moment is fleeting.  Do what you desire to do NOW.

Like in Gabby’s book – it takes 40 days to make a habit, but it starts with committing to EACH day of those 40 days.

Show up for your life now. Grab it by the steering wheel, you are in the drivers seat and you control your destiny.

No matter what outside factors exist, no matter what card’s you have been dealt, what excuses you have held on to and what limits you have created – you are the only one who can exercise your free will NOW in the present moment, minute by minute to decide who and what you will be in your lifetime.  When looking at other people who have been dealt worse hands then you, maybe having no hands, being born with no arms or legs at all like this guy Nick Vujicic http://www.lifewithoutlimbs.org who I saw on Oprah, you have no excuses – and if you think you do watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YwpiZTp0N9k.

Go for it!

Go for it!

Now that 2013 is upon us it is time to put those goals and resolutions to the test.

You’ve decided what you want; now how do you begin to tackle the task?

Daunting a bit isn’t it?

You could:

A)   Decide it’s too big of a goal and procrastinate before you even get started.

Or

B)    Decide it’s going to happen and you won’t waste another year wishing for something you are not taking any action on.

Just a friendly reminder:

We miss 100% of the shots we do not take.

Ready? Ok here’s how to get what you want!

1) You will only accomplish goals you ACTUALLY want to accomplish. This may sound obvious but don’t set the goal of abstaining from sugar if you love sweets way too much. Instead set a goal like only eating natural sweet foods like dates, fruit and natural sweeteners like honey or agave nectar instead of eating any white sugar or artificial sugar or foods.

2) Plan it out. Think really long and hard what you actually need to do to accomplish this goal. If you don’t know – find out!

3) Visualize it. Studies show that athletes who visualized their plays when undergoing brain scans use the same parts of their brain visualizing their moves as they do actually performing them. What does this mean? Practice makes perfect and if you can only practice in your head, it will be like you have already done it to your brain, your muscles, your nervous system and your intuition. This will make it easier for you to actually accomplish your goal because it will be as if you have done this before!

4) Start small. Break your goal into small steps that you can easily accomplish like making one phone call today or substituting one snack with fruit.

5) Start NOW. There is no time like the present, and if you wait any longer it gets even easier to keep putting it off.

6) Remember “progress not perfection”.  I remember my friend Arielle Fierman from Bewellwitharielle.com gave me this amazing piece of advice when I first started this Illustration and consulting business. She told me to make business cards for this new company really early on. Not knowing exactly what I was going to specialize in, I had no idea what to put on the cards.  She told me “progress, not perfection” to just do it and I can always change them later.  This was a huge hurdle for me that I was able to over come with this brand new mantra thanks to Arielle. If she had not told me that, it would have delayed my progress significantly – me being the perfectionist that I am – and that can become really debilitating to a new project or goal.  So start now and make progress, not perfection your goal. The more progress you make, the closer to perfection each time!

7) Set milestones. Milestones are stages into which a program or project is divided. They break the project or goal up in to bite size chunks so that it is easier to accomplish these smaller steps then wrap your mind around accomplishing a big, daunting and scary task.

8) Check in with your progress.  Keep going back to your milestone list and see how you are doing. Hold yourself accountable.

9) Celebrate each milestone. Each small accomplishment should be relished and celebrated. This will keep you going for the long haul.

10) Don’t self sabotage. Sometimes when we are so close to accomplishing a goal we tend to psychologically freak ourselves out thinking we don’t deserve the goal, feeling sad that the project is coming to an end, feeling like we aren’t ready for it to happen or not knowing what comes next. Check yourself before you wreck yourself.  You fully deserve to reach your goals and you need to trust that everything will work itself out. You will be ready for what lies ahead and you can break through that “glass ceiling” of your previous accomplishments.

You can do it, so GO for it!

2013 This is OUR year, breathe it in.

New Years Eve IllustrationHappy New Year and Happy 2 Year Anniversary to my blog on January 1st!!! Resolutions do stick sometimes, huh.

What an exciting year it has been!

I am proud to say this is also the 6-month anniversary of my weekly Newsletter (subscribe here to get in on it)! It is a promise that I have made 6 months ago to deliver weekly illustrations and blog posts to you, and it is something I have taken seriously and proudly kept up, every week for 6 months!

Thus far I have created 23 new illustrations for my blog alone in these last 6 months, and at the end of the one-year anniversary of these newsletters will have created 52 blog illustrations – and that does not include illustrations I have done for clients!

Some of these illustrations have gone on to become products for my online store that launched only a month and a half ago!!! It feels like it has been at least a year! That is another one of my exciting business moves made this year!!! That’s right I am celebrating! And you should celebrate all of your accomplishments this past year too!

I can honestly say that creating this blog for you is probably my favorite thing to do all week.  I look forward to it coming out every Thursday via email. To express myself in writing and create a beautiful illustration each week gives me so much joy, especially because it is created with the intention to inspire, and if it has inspired at least one person then I have done my job.

I wanted to say a big thank you to YOU for taking the time to read my blogs and view my illustrations! Your support inspires me to keep moving towards my dreams – and with that, on with my blog – a blog dedicated to inspiring you BIG time to live your dreams in 2013 and beyond.

What would you say NO to? What would you say Yes to?

It is a brand new year, a year that many of us have gone through hoops of fire to get to. What would you do with this newfound gift? What would you do if you had another chance to get it right, if you had a clean slate?

If you are on the right path, how can you give more, serve more and be more of that?

This is OUR year. Breathe it in. 

This will be a year of significant change. I can feel it in my bones and it’s inspiring.  The climate of our society, of our economy and of our trust in humanity is being tested.  We, as individuals must rise above the challenges and “Be the change we wish to see in the world” – Ghandi.

Change yourself.  You are in control.
Forgive and let go.
Take care of this moment.  Without action, you aren’t going anywhere. See the good in people and help them persist. Be congruent, be authentic and be your true self. Continue to grow and evolve.

These are Ghandi’s fundamentals for changing the world.

Every little bit counts.  Seconds make up minutes and minutes make up hours.

Do you have the guts to see it through?  Can you hold yourself up to the standards you have set for yourself in your heart?

So we survived the end of the world!

2013 Illustrated CalendarSo the world DIDN’T end when the Mayans predicted on 12.21.12. and we survived the holidays!

Phew.

Whatever you celebrated and whether your Preppin’ skills have left you with tons of extra supplies that you didn’t end up needing (yet?!?), don’t you think its time to stop and appreciate the moment?

With all the crazy things that are happening in our world from Hurricane Sandy to the horrific tragedy that took place at Sandy Hook Elementary school, you must have noticed things are getting a little strange.

Is the world actually coming to an end, or are we experiencing the birth of a new world and a new era?

The way I see it, things sometimes have to hit rock bottom before they can get better.

With the state of the economy, the looming possibility of the United States catapulting over the fiscal cliff and the even more scary possibility of the modern-marvel-and-once-benign 3D Printer printing plastic guns that would go undetected in our sea of metal detectors; this world has got some changing to do.

And maybe that’s exactly what it is doing.  The Mayans may have predicted global warming and some other pretty outrageous occurrences but nothing stands out to us more like the possible “End of The World”. Maybe it didn’t happen on 12.21.12. but eventually there has to be an end of the world. Right?

Marie Forleo of MarieForleo.com and Ophi Edut, expert astrologer for Elle.com and cofounder of AstroStyle.com, explained it rather chicly.  Their video explains the theory of us moving from a 3 dimensional world; one that we experience with our 5 senses, into a 4 dimensional world; one in which our smartest business asset is our intuition.  Watch the video here to see what I mean!

I think this is pretty cool as my intuition is a huge part of any of the successes I have had in my life and it is the key to finding your own happiness and creating the life you want to live.

They speak about deepening your spiritual practice as a business tool and realizing that there are more forces at play then you may have originally been aware of. Trust me; check out this video to see what I’m talking about!

With that said, here are my 5 steps to surviving the world after the end of the Mayan calendar.

1) Stop and smell the roses. If the world is really going to end, start really LIVING it!

2) Ask yourself WWJD – What Would Jobs Do? Steve Jobs that is. He famously said “When I was 17, I read a quote that went something like: “If you live each day as if it was your last, someday you’ll most certainly be right.” It made an impression on me, and since then, for the past 33 years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: “If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?” And whenever the answer has been “No” for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something.” ~Steve Jobs, 2005 Stanford Commencement Speech.  So if today were the last day of your life, how would you want to spend it?  Do that!  WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR!?!?!?!

 3)  Follow these words of wisdom from Jobs “Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”  Steve Jobs. Ah, I love that quote! So true!

4)  Get a 2013 calendar. You will need it because the world is NOT coming to an end, but the world as we know it is and you need some inspiration along the way.  In that case, check out my new Illustrated calendar here, specifically created to inspire you every month.

5) Plan your bucket list: your list of things to accomplish before you die! Set some goals and live an inspired life!  Set the track for how your life will go and what you will do in this flash of a pan we all have. As Marie Forleo says in the video above, “Move from Waiting to Creating”.  Don’t wait for success to find you, for prince charming to show up at your door, or for that dream opportunity bump into you as you to cross the street! Create your life the way YOU want it, and that way, if today were your last day here on Earth you can go out having lived it well!
