You have NO idea how excited I am!!!!
I am practically bouncing off my chair and I can’t contain myself.
I just went to meet with my sample makers today to check on my wedding dress and it is looking AMAZZINGGGGGGG. Dreams come to life, paper drawings coming to fruition. It is the thing I LIVE for – being a fashion designer – and I am so excited that I get to be blessed enough to go through this process again, this time with MY wedding dress.  It is even more spectacular then I could imagine and I am SO EXCITED!!!

I feel so free.  That’s what happens when you feel like your dreams are unfolding just the way they are supposed to be. It’s pretty crazy and it feels great.  You no longer have to push, you just show up.

The only way I can describe it is the difference between waiting for happiness and feeling like “you will just be happy ONCE this happens, WHEN xyz, AFTER you get this and that in order, ONCE you make the money, WHEN you have the man, AFTER you have that purse, etc…..”

…and feeling like “everything is happening exactly as it is supposed to and I am so extremely happy and grateful to be right here right now, and I trust the process. I know that I am shooting for the stars and I know I’ll get there and right now I’m enjoying every step of the journey.”

My mentor says it best “Those who are certain of the outcome can afford to wait, and wait without anxiety.” – ACIM.

Well I’ve been waiting!

If there is something you are waiting for that you know in your heart of hearts is your deepest desire : TRUST that the Universe will conspire to move mountains to make your dream happen.  Not because it is magic, but because it’s your JOB to share your gift with the world – and if you are NOT sharing your gift with the world, then you are doing it and everyone around you a MAJOR disservice!!!!

“Live your dream in your heart and let the Universe move everything to bring your dream to you. Feel your dream, feel the presence of the Universe inside you, KNOW that the Universe is guiding you, and then allow the Universe to realize your dream!” – The Secret.

I know this may sound crazy if you don’t already believe what I’m saying but try it for yourself.
Something like this always reminds me of what my mom used to tell me when I was younger and wishing my dream would come true (wishing for this my whole life)….  She said “All overnight successes are 10 years in the making”.

And it’s true. Not that by any means I have achieved all of my dreams as of today but I have achieved so much and I KNOW that my lifelong dream of being a fashion designer is something that I am living now, even if it’s on the small scale – that means the world to me. And one day I know that I will live it on the large scale, because that is what I have always seen for myself.

When the road was covered in an uncertain fog and I could no longer see 5 feet in front of me, it was scary, and depressing and disheartening.
Walking through the uncertain fog was even scarier, continuing to take baby steps even though I had lost my way was extremely hard and I felt like giving up, turning around and curling into a cocoon so many days BUT, the fog has lifted my dears. I can see my dream again and even though I don’t know where the road will take me, I know that from past experience if you hold tight to your dreams and never let go, the fog will pass and you too will be on your way – slowly but surely to living a life beyond your wildest dreams.  It can happen. All you need is faith.

Here is a sneak peak of me draping my wedding gown, the first major milestone in the process of designing and making my dress – one of the most EXCITING things in my life to date.   I am so excited, and I’m so excited for YOU to be with you on your journey to living a life of your dreams!

Stand Tall and Sparkle

There’s times in life when you just have to put the petal to the metal and go out there and DO IT.

With big risks comes big rewards, like I said last week. The SCARIER the better.

Jump in – face first into the unknown and trust that you will learn how to fly.

Fear feeds on doubt and indecision. Trust your gut and figure out what it is you want and need to do.

“Don’t be afraid to fail, be afraid not to try.”

Sometimes what you’re most afraid of is the very thing that will set you free.

I just made a huge decision in my life this week and honestly – it was the scariest thing I did in YEARS and also one of the most liberating, exhilarating and amazing experiences.

I committed to designing and MAKING my wedding dress!!!!!!!!!!!

One of the best things and biggest accomplishments I have ever created  in my life was start my fashion line (RockHardAtelier.com). One of the hardest things I have ever done in my life was NOT be able to continue to fund it in the last few years.  So I stopped.

I stopped LIVING MY PASSION.  I skirted around the issue and lived AROUND my passion.  I did the closest thing I knew how to, to draw, to illustrate. But that is only PART of my dream.  I know I am put on this planet to be a hugely successful fashion designer and to dress women all around the world and to make them feel gorgeous and empowered. This feeling is the truest most freeing, and certain fact I have ever known.

To stop in the face of fear, uncertainty and doubt has honestly been slowly killing me. Due to lack of funds – I was stopped temporarily. Due to being scared out of my mind of failure and EVEN MORE scared out of my mind of success I stopped all together and nothing has ever been the same.

If I have learned anything in this life it’s that IMPOSSIBLE is NOTHING. Right now I may not have the funds to support a major fashion line and company but I know that I can’t give up and I know that making this wedding dress is the truest form of expression of myself. It will be the most loving thing I can do to put my heart and soul not only into my future marriage and husband, but also to love and support myself.

I have been looking all over, trying on dresses, wanting to be able to purchase one, wanting to fall in love with that special dress and I realized – no matter how gorgeous or “perfect” the dress is for me – It will never be everything I want.  I will never be my design.

I have the permanent mind of a fashion designer – even if I try to shake it there will always be things I want to tweek, change or improve. I wakeup everyday thinking about what I WISH was in my closet and what I would design.

Fast forward so much stress, anxiety, suppression and pain – I realized that I need to just practice what I preach. I need to surrender to my calling and create the dress of my dreams.

And the process has begun. I just took a huge leap of faith, trusting that the UNIVERSE will have my back. And it DID. In a huge life altering way.  I got major signs along my journey. Everything from Owls made of sequins (something my grandfather used to collect was Owls), huge 530’s on buildings (our wedding date) and the exact lace I used to design one of my best friend’s and bridesmaid’s wedding gown 4 years ago. I know that I am on the right path and the Universe is CELEBRATING, letting me know that I am supported.  I know that there is just so much more to come.

This is what has been holding me back for so long. Fear. This is how I just busted through my blocks to living a life of my dreams.  Just DOING It. Going for it. Looking fear in the face and knowing that Inaction will be the worst thing I could do.

Take this journey with me now. Leap into your dreams with the faith that you hold buried deep down in your heart – the faith that you know is there – with the faith that built these NYC skyscrapers.  Stand tall and sparkle!

Confidence Booster: my top tricks to inspire and April’s Illustrated Essentials.

Here is a juicy little secret about me that only my inner circle really knows: I don’t have as much confidence all the time as you may think!!!

I am my own WORST critic and there are times when I have a major lack in confidence, however I know it’s something that a lot of us all can relate to.  It’s hard sometimes to constantly compare yourself to others and judge yourself accordingly.  With the rise in social media and #selfies the emphasis on your virtual projection is everything. (And sometimes not in a good way).

Yes it is 100% true that if you run a business – like me – it is truly important to focus on branding (which is part of my business and my business services incase you didn’t know. Click here for more info) , and obviously if you are a business, or anyone else for that matter, who wants your worst photos to be put on blast?  Um, no thank you!

However truth be told, we all have bad days – including me.  Today was one of them to be precise. I am just a normal person with normal insecurities.  We can all beat ourselves up at times over the silliest of things.  The constant judging and comparing in our minds can be really horrible. From body image, to keeping up with the Jones’, to what we wear and where we go – it can all be scrutinized on the public platform we call our facebook, twitter or instagram feed.

I just try to do the best that I can and I am here to help you feel the best you can too!

My job is to INSPIRE you and create beautiful things like illustrations, products, fashion and posts for you to enjoy!!!

So here are my top go-to tricks to boost your confidence and make life a little better.

1. Take a time out.  Step away from whatever you are doing that makes you feel bad and go somewhere else, anywhere. Changing your physical location can stimulate your senses and improve your mood. Go outside, take a bath, or go play with your pet. Changing your scenery will do a lot to increase your happiness quotient. If it is really bad, consider changing your surroundings more permanently like changing jobs, apartments or living situations if you can.

2. Stop, drop and Meditate.  I know you’ve heard it before meditation really can do wonders for your happiness and your health. A meditation a day keeps the sad face emoji’s away.  Meditation helps you tap into your intuition and your internal compass to make the right decisions for you.  It is also essential to help you find your purpose. Some wise man once said “Happiness is simple, it is having someone to love, something to do, and something to look forward to.” and I think that wise man was Elvis! (Ha!)

Without those things you have a recipe to be depressed. Trust me, I’ve been there. Meditation can show you how to discover what to do and what to plan.  Having someone to love can be a family member or friend. It doesn’t have to be a romantic situation only, but if you are romantically involved, love on that partner and appreciate them!

3. Spring clean your social media!!!!! Now this is a big one. Unfollow those who drain and follow those who INSPIRE!!!  Your social media is probably the first thing you look at in the morning (ahem instagram) and the last thing you look at night. Unfollow those creeps who do nothing but complain on facebook blast, or post photos that make you feel gross, whatever that may mean to you.

You don’t have to cave into victim mode – you do NOT, I repeat you DO NOT have to click every tragic news story or animal cruelty video you come across on your facebook feed. (Public notice: you know who you are, PLEASE STOP THE MADNESS and only post things that UPLIFT people!!! Yes there are horrible things in the world going on but JOIN A CLUB to HELP THE CAUSE, try to make a difference or STOP dwelling in the negative energy!!! All you are doing is creating more traction for the news to focus on that crap and all you are creating is a knot in people’s stomachs!)

YOU CREATE the life you want to live.  By putting it out there it will come back to you ten fold, especially if you are trying to inspire everyone in your lives too. Make your social media profiles filled with inspirational quotes, images and beautiful things that lift the energy of yourself and those reading or viewing your posts.  It’s just like that earth day campaign – pick up the TRASH and plant some FLOWERS. That is the only way to have a beautiful world. Don’t post photos of how horrible the trash is, make a change and clean up your side of the street!

4. Talk it out. Sometimes things just need to be said. Grab a trusted confidant and the Kleenex box and go full throttle. Ask for them to listen to you and then maybe they will even have some advice.  Talking about your feelings with those you hold dear is a great way to bond and feel the love of that other person – which is probably exactly what you need when you are lacking in the confidence department.  Don’t worry about sounding stupid, be vulnerable and perhaps the person lending you their ear will be able to see it from another perspective. Example: “I feel like crap and I gained 5 lbs, and I hate my _________ Fill in the blank” Fellow friend: “OH stop it, you look beautiful there is nothing to worry about” (HUG) – Yeah even that stupid nonsense that is really not earth shatteringly important is still great to vent about because you never know, you may just really have needed the reassurance and the hug!

Whether it be these trivial quips about your own self-image or major issues like your finances, a death in the family or worse – like thoughts of suicide or major catastrophic events – talk about it. Getting over grief and problem solving with someone who cares may just be the difference between life and death. (RIP to those who have lost a loved one to suicide, I have just read 3 stories this week about that and I have lost a family member to suicide in the past. It does get better! Don’t loose hope <3 )

5. Gratitude list. This one may sound kind of cheesy but it works. Make a list of everything you are grateful in your life, AND about YOURSELF. List out all the parts of your body you do love starting with all the organs that keep you alive, all the limbs you have that others may not be so lucky to have due to tragic events, all of the blood cells that beat through your heart, and try to find some parts of your outer self that make you feel beautiful.  Be grateful for all the things in your life you are happy about, and that you are so lucky to have. Beauty is not only on the outside, but the inside too.  Add to your list the roof over your head, the warm blankets on your bed, your pillows, your food and all of your luxuries. Not everyone is as fortunate as we are and to remember that helps us remain EXTREMELY grateful.

Like Stars

It is our soul’s mission to connect with, cherish and realize our desires in order to live our lives to the fullest and to make our greatest contributions in the world. In fulfilling our heart-held dreams we flourish, serving ourselves and others from a place of bliss, generosity, and love. Our journey starts at the beginning, in the center, as we go within to listen to our deepest truth.”  – Deepak Chopra.

This is a passage from Day 1 of the Oprah and Deepak Chopra Meditation Experience on Desire and Destiny. I could not pass this up to share it with you.  I have been listening to these free meditation experiences each time they come out and this I think is the third. It just started this Monday and you can still catch it at https://chopracentermeditation.com/challenge and I suggest you do because they are truly inspiring. If you are thinking of starting a meditation practice this is for you!

This first day of meditation inspired me greatly for this blog, as we are all meant to live our destinies, and something about the stars leading the way for us really hit a cord with me.

The celestial bodies, years ago – when the streetlights were not as rampant – were always looked upon for guidance and inspiration, to show the wondering traveler a guided path. The heaping feeling one must get, alone and feeling small when they lost their way, only to look up and get direction from the stars is surmounting. The “knowing” that something greater than them is present and concrete enough to follow and trust is such a comforting feeling. If only we could see the stars on a nightly basis and remember.

We are all made of stars. Me, being a science nerd (could you have guessed it?) has enamorously watched many discovery channel shows on the Universe and our origins. It is something that has always sparked my interest. These astronomers and cosmologists concur that the matter making up stars is the same matter that makes up everything in our Universe, the same matter that makes our sun, makes our trees and makes our cells. So we, are literally all made of stars.

That’s why when you look up in the night sky at those twinkling bodies you feel a connection.  That guidance in the stars, is in all of us.

Is that enough reason to trust your intuition?  It’s there for a reason and it’s ALWAYS right.  To guide you towards your dreams.  I know this may seem a little lofty to hear but it is reality.

No matter what your deepest desires are, the answers to your questions come from listening to your deepest intuitive voice.

It’s fitting that my illustration be of a “Hanukkah girl” my version of a cross between a Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show Angel (which was last night) and a Menorah – and in true VS Angel fashion, I added a little turkey feathers since Hanukkah falls on Thanksgiving this year.  Hanukkah is the festival of lights and a once in a lifetime occurrence that it falls on the festival of giving thanks.  No matter what religion you are we can all be grateful for the guidance we all have access to if we tap into it. Our intuition, and the guidance of lights – the light from the stars, the oil in our lamps, the fire in our fireplaces and the flame in our hearts is what will get us to where we want to go, no matter what obstacle may come in our path.

Paint your life.

Every now and again we get short hits of space in our projects, whether it be ending a previous project and starting a new or whether it be a summer vacation, a weekend get away or even just a bath and a night off where we can really clear our minds.

Having this space in our lives is crucial to paint the future.  You are your own Monet, with a blank canvas to beautifully paint your life with watercolors.

Now that I have gotten myself in the habit of really liking to plan my schedules and goals months in advance, it always is such a fun time to create where I will be going, or where my clients will be going.

When you don’t plan it out – life gets stagnant and life starts to happen TO you instead of happening FOR you.  It is so not fun to wander aimlessly through life when instead you could be the master of your destiny.  Just some simple planning really makes a world of difference.

What is it that you really want to accomplish but have put off planning?

Start small – make some goals for the next month to three months.  Figure out some really exciting things you want to do.

Get detailed – at the start of each new month, figure out exactly how you will accomplish your goals and write it out.

Check in  – go back to your goal sheet and check in with yourself though out the year and on a monthly basis. This will hold you accountable and help you remember what you wanted to complete.

When you are starting out you don’t even have to have specific dates (unless you want to).  Sometimes having specific dates sets you up for failure. Instead have more flexible goals like completing a task by the end of every month.

Whatever you plan, have fun with it and don’t get down on yourself if you don’t meet all of your goals.  There’s always next month to try it again. Painting your life is a process that takes time, practice and flexibility. Sometimes the universe just has bigger plans for you, and your goals get derailed.  Sometimes you meet your goals way earlier than you expected and have no idea what to do next.

Just take it day by day and enjoy the process.

Step it up!

THIS WEEK is officially my 54th Illustrated blog (not counting client work)… do you know what that means? I’ve kept my word and reached my goal of doing a new illustrated blog EVERY week for one year!!!! It feels SOo amazing to accomplish this and I am so excited!!!!  – And, I’m going to keep it going! I LOVE doing this blog every week – it is something I look forward to so much and it always makes me happy to hear back from you about how my blog was “exactly what you needed to hear” and if it helped you in anyway!  THANKS for the responses!  It means a lot!

But it wasn’t always this easy…

I have been a master goal maker my whole life but only now in the last few years have I really figured out how to get serious and make strategic plans to follow through. Although I’ve always had the best intentions and pure desire, sometimes that is not enough.  When I was younger I didn’t really know how to carry it out and what moves to make.  Not that I have all the answers now, but I’ve definitely picked up a few steps along the way.

I have BIG DREAMS, I mean HUGE, and I know it is my life’s purpose to fulfill these dreams – and inspire others along the way to live their dreams!!!

Sure it can get a little disheartening when you have a goal and seem to be making no visible progress after such a long time chipping away at it but my Mom always says “all overnight successes were 10 years in the making”. So hard to swallow when I first heard that (since I was on year 1 at the time) but so TRUE!

1. You really have to trust the Universe.  Quirky and abstract as it may seem, it really is so strengthening to believe in something greater than yourself that has a master plan.  When you don’t – and I’ve been there – you feel totally lost and alone. When you think about all the people who have come before you and will come after you, you have to realize that things can be done that you may not have any evidence of. These are things you can only know from trusting.  There are so many people routing for you whether you know it or not, whether you’ve met them or not and whether they are with you right now in physical form or not.

2. Figure out how you want to feel. Maybe you don’t know exactly what it is you want to DO, but you know how you want to feel.  List it out.  Is it happy, successful, healthy, strong, beautiful, loved, supported, etc.  Whatever it is, really think about it and then decide WHAT would make you feel that way.  For example: If you want to feel strong, start lifting weights. If you want to feel successful, decide what would make you feel that way. This is different for everyone so it’s important to decide what would make YOU feel this, not what society thinks it means.

3. Decide exactly what you want to do. Once you know how you want to feel, what is the big picture of whatever you want to accomplish?  What do you need to do to make this happen? Break it down into phases, tasks and mini steps.  This will help it seem less daunting and more likely for you to take the first step.

4. Choose something that you feel is SUPER FUN to do.  If it’s not, you won’t do it.  You should be excited to do this task every time you have allocated it in your calendar.  If it’s something like doing your taxes early (not fun) make it fun by realizing that you are becoming an expertise and will know so much more about your personal finance situation.

5. Plan it out.  Figure out when you want to have this goal done and then work backwards. Divide the days or months you have until your due date and assign the smaller chunks of your goals into deadlines.  Be specific. How many times a month or week will you need to do this to accomplish your goal? By having an exact time frame and day in mind you will be able to stay accountable for it.

6. Announce it to the world (or at least your friends and family). This will REALLY make you feel accountable.  There is no turning back at this point and you will feel SO good when you get the job done!

Ok now, it’s time to really step it up world!  You have to take a bite when the fruit is RIPE.  You wouldn’t keep saving those strawberries in the fridge for next week, you need to eat them now before the opportunity ceases (and they get moldy – gross).  Carpe the hell out of that Diem!

Now go get um!

Let your dreams take flight!

When you open the door to trusting the Universe and whatever greater plan there is out there, when you let go of the fear and all of the worrying, you make room to let your dreams in.

Feeling your feelings of fear, stress, uncertainty; understanding why they are there, and dealing with them will help you deal with your past stories that my no longer serve you – The stories that may have never even been real in the first place.

Things like having a “lack mentality”, feeling “not good enough” or feeling afraid that deep down you are “unlovable” because there is “something wrong with you” are actually just stories that we all have had at one point in our lives. Either brought on by society, the media or people close to us; these stories are all NOT real, non-existent and completely made up.  It’s a hard and complicated theory to process but once you open up to the Universe and whatever trust you have in “something greater than you”, you will then realize that there is infinite abundance, infinite love and infinite success just waiting for you to step into.

Forgiving and understanding your past is the key to your future, unlocking your dreams and your true potential.

I know because first hand I have experienced this and was taught how to heal any fears I may have had.  I am still a work in progress, but aren’t we all?

Making it a daily practice…

Never being afraid to start again…

Starting fresh when you just have to pick yourself up off the floor… is the key.

 

Whoever said you only live once is completely wrong. You live again each and every day!

By opening up to changing your mentality; you open up to changing your life.  It has worked for me tenfold and amazing things happen in my life when I have this mindset, a Miracle Mindset as my mentor Gabrielle Bernstein has instilled in me.  Miracles happen, dreams come true and living the life you always wanted really is achievable when you just trust you are being guided.

When you open up to love, happiness and abundance in your life and CHOOSE to accept that it is meant for you and that you are worth it, it all of a sudden will be yours.

I am so grateful for all of these teachings because it has really changed my life, in business, and in personal.  It takes hard work and dedication but you really can live a life beyond your wildest dreams.  It’s a really exciting thing when you realize this, and the best part is that it is meant for YOU too!

My business is growing like a ROCK STAR and I just got engaged to my love last weekend on this Fourth of July!!!

Get Festive

It is time to get festive and I have some major spring fever (you might have guessed from my previous posts.)

This weekend is Cinco De Mayo, a favorite holiday of mine, a celebratory day in the Mexican heritage, and furthermore a really good reason for us to grab some margaritas and guacamole and dig in! Also my puppy will be 2 years old so I have some extra celebrating to do!

For me it feels like Cinco De Mayo is really the start of the summer celebrations we are about to embark on. It’s the first time since the winter months that we are really getting out there to celebrate in spring weather for us folks here in New York.

But it’s more than just that, this time of year means it’s occasion enough to get up and celebrate what you have goin’ on in your life!

Lets face it, we worked hard all winter, we sowed our oats and now is the time to get really grateful for everything in our lives.

Not having the best situation, but seeing the best in your situation is the key to happiness.”– Marie Forleo.

If your not feelin’ in the festive mood – go down your gratitude list and really feel grateful for every SINGLE thing you have from your bed sheets, the roof over your head, your six senses (I like to count intuition as the sixth – not the scary ghost stuff), the fact that hopefully everything is functioning right in your body, for your clothes, your internet, EVERYTHING and literally thank God or the Universe for everything you have, every single night!  This will make you super happy on the inside and it will radiate to the outside!

The more comfortable you get with being happy and experiencing gratitude for the little things and the things we take for granted, the bigger your heart threshold can grow.  What is your heart threshold you may ask? It is the amount of happiness you are comfortable with accepting and once you pass that threshold we sometimes start to self -sabotage.  (Read The Big Leap by Gay Hendricks, so many great points I will be quoting him for months!)

The more happiness you are comfortable accepting, means the more success, love and abundance that will come to you.

Finding reason to celebrate exactly where you are, right now, no matter what the circumstance is absolutely reason to Get Festive!!!

Now go on, get grateful and enjoy life!
